Solar panel price in Trivandrum 2026: what a quote should include
In short: In Trivandrum in 2026, a complete 3 kW rooftop solar system costs about ₹2,15,000, or ₹1,37,000 after the ₹78,000 subsidy. That works out to about ₹72 per watt for 3 kW and ₹64 per watt for 5 kW, installed. What moves a Trivandrum quote up or down is the roof: the structure on a flat terrace, salt air near the coast, and shade from trees and nearby buildings.

Search for "solar panel price in Trivandrum" and the prices you find can be far apart. The difference is usually what is included: a panel on its own, or a complete system installed on your roof with the KSEB net meter and the subsidy handled. This guide explains what you should pay for a complete home system in Thiruvananthapuram, what changes the price locally, and how to compare quotes. For our full price table by system size, see rooftop solar in Thiruvananthapuram.

Solar panel price in Trivandrum, per watt and per system

SystemInstalled pricePer wattAfter ₹78,000 subsidy (3 kW and above)
2 kW₹1,65,000about ₹82₹1,05,000 (₹60,000 subsidy)
3 kW₹2,15,000about ₹72₹1,37,000
5 kW₹3,20,000about ₹64₹2,42,000

These are Jasper Solar's 2026 prices for on-grid home systems with DCR panels, which the subsidy requires. Larger systems cost less per watt because the installation, wiring and paperwork are shared over more panels. See 5 kW solar price in Kerala and solar panel cost in Kerala 2026 for more detail.

What a complete system price includes

The panels are only part of the cost. A fair quote for a Trivandrum home should list:

  • DCR panels, with the brand, wattage and number of panels
  • The inverter, with the brand and its warranty
  • The mounting structure: material, galvanizing and height
  • DC and AC cables, distribution boxes, earthing and lightning protection
  • Installation, and the KSEB feasibility, net meter and commissioning paperwork
  • The PM Surya Ghar subsidy application
  • GST, which works out to about 8.9% on a complete system

When one quote is much cheaper than the rest, check what it leaves out: a weaker structure, non-DCR panels that lose you the subsidy, or the KSEB work left to you.

What changes the price in Trivandrum

Flat terraces and elevated structures

Most Trivandrum homes have a flat concrete terrace that families use for drying clothes, water tanks and gatherings. An elevated structure, raised high enough to walk under, keeps the terrace usable but needs more steel than a low frame. We use chemically anchored, hot-dip galvanized structures built to IIT/NIT certified designs, so they stand up to monsoon winds.

Salt air along the coast

Homes near the coast, from Varkala, Anchuthengu and Kadinamkulam to Vizhinjam, Poovar and Parassala, face salt air that corrodes thin galvanizing and cheap fittings. Here thicker galvanizing and panels certified for salt mist, such as Premier Energies' TOPCon range, are worth the small extra cost because they last longer.

Shade from trees and buildings

Coconut trees, jackfruit trees and taller neighbouring houses shade many roofs, in the city and in the eastern areas around Nedumangad, Vithura and Peringamala. On a shaded roof, panel-level optimizers such as SolarEdge cost more than a string inverter but recover the output that shade would otherwise cost you.

Roof height and cable runs

Two and three-storey houses, narrow city plots and long cable runs from the roof to the KSEB meter all add labour and material. Our engineer measures these on the free home visit so the quote has no surprises.

How to compare solar quotes in Trivandrum

  1. Compare per watt of panels: divide the total price by the panel wattage in the quote.
  2. Check the panels are DCR and the installer is a registered vendor for Kerala on the PM Surya Ghar portal, or you lose the subsidy.
  3. Ask about the structure: hot-dip galvanized steel, its height, and how it is anchored to the roof.
  4. Check the warranties: panel performance, inverter and the installer's own workmanship warranty.
  5. Ask who handles KSEB: the feasibility check, net meter and commissioning at your section office, and the subsidy claim.
  6. Ask about after-sales service: who comes when something goes wrong, and how fast.

Savings for a Trivandrum home

A 3 kW system makes about 400 units a month here. For a home using that much, the two-monthly KSEB bill falls from about ₹7,516 to about ₹100, a saving of about ₹44,500 a year, so the ₹1,37,000 net cost pays back in about three years. Our KSEB solar bill guide shows the calculation, and the solar calculator works it out from your own bill.

Common questions

What is the price of a 3 kW solar system in Trivandrum?
About ₹2,15,000 for a complete on-grid home system, or ₹1,37,000 after the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy.

What is the solar panel price per watt in Trivandrum?
For a complete installed home system, about ₹72 a watt at 3 kW and ₹64 a watt at 5 kW, including the structure, inverter, wiring, KSEB paperwork and GST.

Why do solar quotes in Trivandrum vary so much?
Mostly because of what is included: the panel type, the structure, the inverter, and whether the KSEB and subsidy work is part of the price.

How long does installation take in Trivandrum?
About three weeks from order to commissioning for a typical home. The roof work itself takes a day or two; the rest is KSEB's feasibility check, net meter and commissioning.
