How the SBI Surya Ghar solar loan works
- Up to 3 kW: loan up to ₹2 lakh, about 6.00% a year. No minimum income needed.
- Above 3 kW: loan up to ₹6 lakh, about 8.15% a year. Needs a net annual income of ₹3 lakh or more.
- Down payment: at least 10% of the plant cost up to 3 kW, and at least 20% above 3 kW. If the plant cost is more than the loan limit (₹2 lakh up to 3 kW), you pay everything above the limit, so from a plant cost of ₹2,22,222 the down payment is more than 10%.
- Tenure: up to 10 years, with 6 months' moratorium after the loan is paid out. No processing fee and no pre-payment penalty.
- Subsidy: the PM Surya Ghar subsidy (up to ₹78,000) is credited to your loan account, which brings the loan down.

How much down payment do I need for a solar loan?
At least 10% of the plant cost for systems up to 3 kW, and at least 20% above 3 kW. Up to 3 kW the loan is limited to ₹2 lakh, so for a plant cost above ₹2,22,222 you pay everything above ₹2 lakh.
